Before the creation of the two Autonomous Communities, Ugwueme had one Traditional Council. The Traditional Ruler (Igwe) that ruled Ugwueme was HRH, Igwe Oluah of blessed memory.
Upon the creation of the Autonomous Communities, Agulese Ugwueme installed HRH Igwe (Sir) Godwin Oluneziobi Okereke (OON, KJW), (1930 – 2020) as their first Traditional Ruler. At the moment, the two communities have no sitting Traditional Ruler. They are working hard in installing their respective Igwes.
The Town Union leaderships of the two Autonomous Communities have been piloting the affairs of the town. The Agulese Ugwueme General Assembly (AUGA) led by Dr. Sunday Okafor and the Eziobu Town Union led by Comrade Nelson Okoroafor have been leading the Town in the absence of the Traditional Rulers.
