Ugwueme, one of the oldest town in Awgu LGA of Enugu State has rich cultural heritage. The geography and the topology of this ancient city designed by the Almighty God is one of the wonders of the world. This has made Ugwueme the Tourists destination. The hospitality of Ndi Ugwueme is second to none. The great and illustrous people of Ugwueme have excelled in spheres of human endeavours including but not limited to academia, business, trade, farming, politics.
There is a popular saying that if you don’t announce yourself, you will go unnoticed. Seeing that Ugwueme is blessed in all ramifications, it becomes imperative to showcase these talents, virtues, natural endowments and the rich cultural heritage to the world, with a firm believe that what we have got we add values locally and internationally. It is, therefore on this premise that five progress Ugwueme sons, coordinated by Dr. Sunday Okafor, came together to put up Ugwueme Website (www.ugwueme.com or www.ugwueme.org).
Essentially, the project – Ugwueme Website is an independent, non-governmental, non partisan, devoid of any political or religious inclination or sentiment. It is developed primarily to rebrand and showcase this ancient city in good light. It is also a multi-purpose project that aims at sharing our rich cultural heritage and natural endowments with the larger society in an attempt to attract Tourists and Government attention.
We shall equally use this platform to showcase the talents of our teaming young people. It shall serve to advertise the goods and services of illustrious sons and daughters and project their businesses and achievements locally and internationally.
Ugwueme has so many Clubs/Associations duly recognized by constituted authorities (Ugwueme Leadership and CAC). They are strongly encouraged to sieze this opportunity to showcase what they are doing. They can update their leadership, tell us the aims and objectives, their programs (what they have done/achievements and what they are intending to do/proposals). All these shall be updated on Ugwueme Website.
Ugwueme Website shall serve as a platform for preserving and passing on to generation unborn our great cultural values, including our language – Akpala Ugwueme. Community developments and leadership, Government engagements with the Town, politics geared towards developing Ugwueme and many more shall be featured on the website.
We shall not forget to celebrate/acknowledge our illustrious sons and daughters who have made us proud in the Website’s Hall of Fame. To be very definite, those who have consistently engaged in productive human capacity building, Community developments through purposeful leadership and philanthropism geared towards poverty alleviation and reduction of the suffering of the masses shall be featured from time to time in the Hall of Fame.
